It’s out. It’s been a long 3 (nearly 4!) years, but so worth it.
The Adventures of Square is a huge independent videogame project I have been involved with for a long time now. It saw its first big release (v1.0) in late 2014, has developed a significant following, gained mainstream press coverage, and since then, the project has only continued to grow and develop, with its thunderous second episode now finally ready for showing.
If you’re not familiar with what this project is, you can read more on the project’s page on this blog, which I just updated in light of this momentous release.
Episode 1, CORNERED BY CIRCLES, features:
- 9 fully playable levels, fresh out of Shape Land.
- 4 exclusive deathmatch maps.
- All-new textures and artwork.
- All-new sounds and voice acting.
- All-new MIDI soundtrack.
- Arcade style Time Attack Mode (single-player mode in deathmatch levels).
- Support for Xbox controllers.
- Support for Mac users.
- Really, really awful puns. We mean it.
Here’s what’s new in The Adventures of Square‘s earth-shattering second episode: GALACTIC LUNACY.
- 10(?) brand-new levels, packed full of secrets and fun things.
- Low-gravity platforming and paint-splatter physics in OUTER SPACE! (Just bring your fishbowl, unless you feel like going splat.)
- Listen with the included DMXOPL for maximum nostalgia.
- Several new enemies to pick fights with.
- A new weapon with which to wreak havoc.
- More brilliant voice acting for Square’s one liners and the new characters.
- Dangerously cheesy puns. You’ve been forewarned.
This game has been a blast to work on, and it’s been so fun immersing myself in the indie gaming scene through it.
I hope you have an equally awesome time blazing through it. 🙂

Game crashing bug : Jumping on top of the big square trees and spinning your mouse around while on top will crash the game with no error messages.
I’m using the square.exe provided.
That seems bizarre. What episode/map/position does this happen on? And which renderer were you using. Give some idmypos coordinates if you can.
It happens on every big square tree thing, doesn’t matter which map, but you can try it on E1A1 and E1A4 for example.
I’m using default square.exe settings (software renderer).
